Description of the Course:


The fast growing, newly industrialized economies of Asia are posting some of the world’s highest growth rates. What does that mean for global management strategies?
What are the business opportunities in Asia?

This course examines the key issues faced by managers of multinational companies, and studies cutting edge strategies and practices designed to enable managers and policy makers to weather the Asian financial and economic storms.
With approaching to the business environment(economic and non-economic), the dimensions of cultures, the organizational behavior, the global competitiveness in Asia, you are enable to understand the strategic business managements in Asia.
And this course specially examines managing political risks, women and ethnic minorities in business in contemporary Asia, exploring regional trade and business links in a comparative study for the regions of Asia; APEC, ASEAN, NIEs, Indo-China, China, Japan

Course Objectives, Expectations:
With knowing the business environments,cultural diversity,organizational behavior of Asia through comparative study and issue reports, students will achieve the solutions for “What are the business opportunities in Asia?”

Recommended for a good class activity:
Instructor will be giving students materials (Which are related Case studies, articles, issue reports, web resources) before each class. Students are encouraged to preview the materials before class and expected to participate in the discussion during class.
Students are also encouraged to read the Asia Wall Street Journal and business sections of other newspapers regularly during the semester to keep abreast of current events and increase interests in course topics.

Statement on Classroom Conduct:
The class will be conducted in three blocks.
One thirds of class(approximately 45 minutes) will be presented the summary of topic by student work group. Another thirds of class(approximately 50 minutes) will be facilitated student-led-discussion by the student work group. And the last one thirds of class will be summarized on the topic by instructor.

Statement on Class Attendance:
Attendance is required.
Missing one class is automatic deduction of 2 points from your overall grading.

Criteria for Grading:
A Summary presentation and student-led-discussion (Mid-exam): 30%
Term-paper writing(Final-exam) : 40%
Class attendance : 20%
Class Preparation and Schedule advantages : 10%
